The Genealogy of Paul Garrett and Sylvia Ferguson

This project consisted of researching early census records for Harrison County, Virginia (now West Virginia), birth, marriage and death records, as well as early county histories and probate records.

John Garrett, the immigrant ancestor arrived from Northern Ireland to Cumberland County, Pennsylvania in 1816. He soon traveled south via the Great Wagon Road and settled with his wife and her family in western Virginia, in Harrison County. John was a farmer and lived to be a nonagenarian in a time when the average life expectancy was fifty years of age. The book follows John and his descendants’ lives to the present generation.

This narrative also explores the family of Sylvia Ferguson and her ancestors who settled in Harrison County in the early 1830s. The book details the lives of the Ferguson family by utilizing census records, birth, marriage and death records, as well as probate and will documents.

This book contains over 200 years of genealogical family history.
